Elizabeth was notorious for her bloodthirsty reign which resulted in the deaths of over Catholics, contrary to popular belief, she was not tolerant of catholics rather she joined in the work of her father and persecuted catholics by the hundreds.

This persecution of Catholics among other factors including the death of Mary Queen of Scots would lead to Philip II eventually declaring war on Elizabeth and starting the Spanish Armada. Although Elizabeth is remembered for her triumph over the aforementioned war, it was a war that she provoked nonetheless. Had england not broken her neutrality, Philip would not have had to declare war.

Elizabeth was rumored to have numerous favourites and she was even rumored to have relationships with them, they include:. Robert Dudley was a favourite among Elizabeth I, whom both knew each other since they were children. Elizabeth was known to be romantically in love with Lord Dudley and depsrite to marry him. Their relationship is known in multiple sketches through the Horrible Histories TV series. Two examples include her courtiers including William Cecil, give presents for Elizabeth during Christmas, with each of gift she dislikes until Lord Dudley gives her the first mechanical wrist watch in England, which she loves until she spills her wine onto her dress when Dudley asks for the time.

Lord Dudley once even built a large royal garden for her, but wanted him to move the entire garden by a few metres. However, Dudley himself went through two wives, which Elizabeth disapproved of. To give an example of the difference in this view, Dr. Charles Knightly argues that their relationship was nothing more than a friendship, while Dr. Tracy Borman of Historic Royal Palaces, argues that Elizabeth and Dudley did in fact have an intimate relationship which is depicted in the sketch.

In the Historical Desktops sketch from Series 4, Episode 3 , she gets a call from her adviser, William Cecil who asks her if she has found anyone to carry on the Tudor lineage, to which she replies in the negative. Cecil was then depicted next to Elizabeth in Season 3 Episode 9 , where Sir William comes before Elizabeth I and is almost arrested for violating her clothing laws, William Cecil assists the unlucky knight when he is almost arrested for not wearing a woolly hat, by offering the unfortunate knight a spare beanie.

According to Horrible Histories, Elizabeth passed a law stating that it is compulsory for people to wear a woollen hat on a specific day so as to support the Wool industry.

Elizabeth I is shown to be a feisty ruler with a vicious temper. She can be rude, as she mocks her subjects and gives insulting nicknames to her advisors, but she is mostly playful with her teasing. She gets very mad, and tends to throw shoes and she will threaten to behead people when she's not in a good mood. She was a protestant queen who was responsible for the deaths of over Catholics.
